Finishing Essay

I spent half an hour going through my essay and picking out small parts that needed changing and changed them. this should be my last version of this essay.

Essay Feedback

I had a quick discussion with my tutor about the essay and what I should improve on it and what to not include. I think my next draft will be the last.

Presentation Preparation

I am preparing for my presentation today by creating my presentation on Prezi. (www.prezi.com)
I spent 45 minutes starting this presentation, finding an interesting template to go with my theme of the project and writing out which subjects I need to touch on in the presentation.

Finishing my Essay and Coming to a Conclusion

I spent just over an hour today writing the rest of my essay, making improvements and adding a conclusion and adding to the evaluation.

Photos of the final product

I took photos of Lucy wearing my final artefact to complete my sketchbook. I edited these in Photoshop to change the lighting etc. and printed them A3 to put as my final conclusion pages in the workbook to show the wearability and practicality of these jewellery pieces.

Essay

I spent 2 hours today writing up the discussion part of my essay as the first draft. I also wrote the introduction and abstract and partial bits of the evaluation as far as I could as my project is not over therefore I have not reached a complete conclusion and am not able to complete the evaluation to a full standard yet.

More of the final collection

I spent around 4 hours today creating the main piece of the collection, the statement embroidered necklace. I chose colours based on beautiful butterflies and also based on the fact they are opposite on the colour wheel therefore compliment them. This took a further half an hour to pin into place and dissolve the  fabric around it.

starting my final collection

My sketchbook has lead me to do a range of jewellery as my final collection of products for the artefact. I have created a bracelet and a necklace today with the same soluble fabric as the trial I did earlier on and the same colour scheme. I will base my whole collection around these colours and colours that compliment them. These took 2 hours to create however they were small pieces therefore my one statement necklace that I am planning to create will most likely take a very long time (maybe 4-5 hours to embroider). I have found that natural drying is much more effective than drying the embroidery with a hairdryer therefore I will do this for the rest of the pieces.

trial

I Created a trial based on the colours and reflection and textures of water based on Caroline Saxby's work. This took around half an hour to an hour.

Developments

I have done another development trial today with different soluble fabric to what I am used to. I did this for work inspired by Caroline Homfray as I did not like the effect of the embroidery on calico. I have took her motifs and colours as inspiration.
The soluble fabric I used for this trail was better than usual therefore I have decided I will use this for my final products. I have decided to create two of my final pieces of the collection today as this has worked so well.

Research Analysis

I am carrying on with my research analysis and I am going to have it finished by the end of the two hour lesson I have set aside for it. this will help me then move forward with my extended project as I will be able to carry on with development work etc.

tutorial

For my tutorial with Mr Davies I got him to look at my essay and give me feedback on certain parts of it as I was unsure where I should paragraph and also where the references should go within the paragraph. I got some really helpful feedback and therefore am going to carry on with the essay today.

Research analysis

I have started typing up my research analysis part of the essay for my extended project. I have wrote about the differences between primary and secondary sources and about the research of a few artists in my workbook. I have stopped after a few artists as I have a tutorial with Mr Davies soon and would like him to read through it before I continue.

Developments

I have started developments on my work for the Lindsay Taylor page, using soluble fabric to create a butterfly motif, using the soluble fabric seems to work better than embroidery on calico and gives me the effect I wanted and that I like.

research complete

I have completed my research pages and will be going on to do development work for the artists I have in my sketchbook. I have researched artists who do not create jewellery as I want to use their techniques to my advantage whilst making my final products to make them original and different. This was also to research a range of different techniques and styles of textile work in the natural world to expand my knowledge more.

Trying out knitting

I had a go at the knitting pattern that I watched a video for however this did not work out in a good way. I kept losing stitches meaning it would have holes in places. I gave it another go from the start however it did not go the shape I wanted and was a lost cause to be a flower.
After trying this technique I realised it did not fit in with my other research and I decided I didn't want to take it further for developing into my final range of products.

tutorial

I attended a tutorial with Mr Davis again in which he told me to fill in gaps with my research pages and to make sure I had tested a variety of different techniques. If I wasn't to try out an artists' technique or style I would have to fill the page with more analysis or my own photographs which I thought would help with my further developments, allowing me to use motifs as a further step just not using the technique the artist uses.
I was also asked to show evidence of textile processes and evidence of primary research such as questionnaires and the conclusions of them (as I have not yet put these in my sketchbook with conclusions on them), as well as shop visits and exhibition visits. etc.

I was also told to start my essay on evaluation and research summary, which I plan to start in the next couple of weeks or so after I have finished my research completely and done some developments.

Writing about textile processes.

I have wrote about the screenshots I have printed from the YouTube videos about how the artist has used this technique. I also wrote about the knitting video I watched and I want to try this out for myself to see how it turns out and if I can use it within my developments. This type of research really helps with my project as it allows me to learn new techniques.

adding more research

by looking at different textile processes for my research, i found another artist to include in my sketchbook who uses soluble fabric and a different kind of technique. this is to create 3D work  which reminded me of Lindsay Taylor's work. i feel like i will be able to combine their techniques to create something that was an image of something in the natural world but also inspired by the colours of something you'd find in the natural world.

Run through of my work with Mr Davies.

I went through my finished research with Mr Davies to see where to go next and what i need to do. he gave me a list of tasks to get on with before the next time I see him. i was told to go more in depth with my research therefore I am going to watch videos on youtube of different textile processes that these artists use.

Analysis of artists

I went through all of my artists in my sketchbook and finished off my research for the artists I am using for inspiration. I found out how they made their work and what their inspirations are and how they are linked them to my extended project theme. The analysis is in my sketchbook on the artist pages.
